Everyone's Legal Right to Equality

In a world where equality remains an ongoing pursuit, the Sanizaire Foundation strives to serve as a beacon of hope, not only by shedding light on the injustices that require our collective attention but also by actively working to create meaningful change.
The Sanizaire Foundation’s first major advocacy effort focuses on violations of an individual's rights involving Florida’s Department of Children and Families and North Florida State Hospital. This case is deeply personal to the foundation’s founder, Scarlie Paul, and is the driving force behind the establishment of the Sanizaire Foundation.
The foundation was inspired by the experiences of Marie Anne Sanizaire, Scarlie Paul’s mother, who allegedly endured discrimination and treatment that raised serious concerns about the protection of her fundamental human rights.
According to the family’s account, while Marie Anne Sanizaire was undergoing cancer treatment and surgery, she was repeatedly denied family visitation by a state facility. These alleged restrictions caused significant distress during an already vulnerable period in her life. The family believes these actions warrant careful examination, particularly in light of Florida Senate Bill 988 and the legal protections that may apply to her circumstances.
The foundation believes that individuals receiving care in state facilities deserve to be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect. Social workers and other professionals entrusted with their care have an important responsibility to advocate for their well-being, protect their rights, and act in their best interests. For the Sanizaire Foundation, this case raises important questions about accountability, family visitation, and the treatment of vulnerable individuals within institutional settings.
The Sanizaire Foundation has been working to bring attention to this matter, with the goal of seeking accountability and helping ensure that Marie Anne Sanizaire’s experience contributes to broader conversations about protecting individual rights. Beyond this particular case, the foundation hopes to support others across the nation who may have experienced similar forms of discrimination, mistreatment, or the denial of their fundamental rights.
The foundation’s mission is to support and advocate for individuals from all backgrounds and regions who have experienced similar injustices. By raising awareness, amplifying voices that might otherwise go unheard, and encouraging accountability, the Sanizaire Foundation hopes to contribute to a more equitable and compassionate society.
If an elderly individual living with mental illness can face circumstances that raise such serious concerns about dignity, family connection, and personal rights, we must ask ourselves how many others may be experiencing similar challenges without the resources or support to speak out.
Equality must be more than an ideal; it must be a right that every individual can exercise and a principle that every institution is expected to uphold.
Through advocacy, awareness, and meaningful action, the Sanizaire Foundation is committed to helping build a future in which every person is treated with dignity, every voice has the opportunity to be heard, and no individual’s rights are overlooked because of their age, disability, medical condition, or circumstances.
